Resolved Question: If something died in my crawlspace, could damp make it last months & showering or flushing worsen the smell?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Howdy! Here is a good question. I hope this will help you with your daily composting!

My basement stinks like something organic rotting and it wafts upstairs, and I can’t run the A/C anymore because it uses basement air and makes the house smell like a compost bin. At first I ruled out something dead because it lasted all summer and started in spring, and, although it pretty much always smells, it gets worse every time anyone showers or flushes, so I was convinced it was sewer gas. But yesterday on a hike I finally smelled sewer gas coming from some pipe, and it’s pretty different from this smell. Could something dead take months to rot, and smell worse when water leaks into the crawlspace area or foundation somehow when I flush or shower? Also! Would something dead in the crawlspace smell kind of different from roadkill rotting in the hot sun? Because I have had to smell roadkill plenty of times and this, though offensive, is not nearly as bad as roadkill in the sun is.

Voting Question: Why are many people pushing composting?

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Hello! We have found another question for you to ponder.

A lot of horticulturists warn against adding more than 5% organic matter to soil. Most soil already has sufficient organic matter, and would benfit more from non orangic amendments like sand, pumice. What are people supposed to do with all of this compost?

Composter (Canandaigua) $70

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Greetings! Looking for a composter? Well, here is one we found and hopefully you like. Good luck!

This is a homemade composter that is built to last. It has a 55 gallon capacity and made with pressure treated lumber and coated screws that will not rust.

Just add organic waste to the tumbler through the hatch in the top, add some water and give it a spin every few days and you’ll have perfect compost in a month or so. This unit is also great for keeping the animals out and the valuable nutrients in the bin. This is the best time to start composting.

Before buying this go check the poor quality of the $300 compost tumblers on ebay and you’ll see what a deal this is.

Hopefully this composter will meet your needs. If you have a composter that you would like to sell, contact us at sluggoof662gmail.com and we will find a place for it on our site, for FREE!

Resolved Question: What pH Level should my soil be for growing Naga Jolokia Chilli?

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Greetings! Here is a questionI found when I was looking at Yahoo.

Hi, i have been growing chilli’s for many years but have recently started growing the infamous Naga Jolokia. I usually grow in soil/compost but this year i have started using coco coir using nutrients etc. I have been feeding them 5.5 pH water and it seems the leaves are looking dry and going pale.

Does anyone know the perfect pH for growing Naga’s!

Thanks in advance :)
This is for the pH of the Water/Nutrient mix not the pH of the soil.

COMPOSTER- (Greene, NY) $35

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Greetings! Looking for a composter? Well, here is one we found and hopefully you like. Good luck!

In like new condition- the “Earth Machine”- COMPOSTER. This also includes the 4 posts to stake it down with (shown in front). This measures 31 x 33 inches high. I believe the capacity to be 74 gallons.

Chop up larger items and empty all your waste from vegetables and fruits(do NOT put in meat scraps) into this composter. Cover waste with a handful of old leaves, other dried yard waste or soil. Stir and put the lid on, and let your composter do the work. After a few months you will have rich compost. Lift the small door and dig the material out of the bottom.

I hope this is the composter for you. We also will advertise your composter for sale, if you have one. Contact us at sluggoof66@gmail.com and we will place your ad for FREE! We have lots of traffice to our site and we update it daily.

Hope you found what you need! Come back often!
